The RI Convention and Home

Well, obviously I am back at home. It has been a couple of months since the Convention. However, I wanted to complete the posting series, so here goes.

We Began with the "Pre-Convention" activity of the International Institute. This was a couple of days before the main convention. It was a chance to interact on a little more personal level with Rotary leaders. Good information, especially on membership issues.

We met Steve and Sharron Snyder at registration.

President Banerjee Spoke at the opening reception.

I met Don Murphy at the reception. He is next year's
PETS Chair

Our GSE partners from India (D3150) T.V.R and Sashi.

We moved into the Sangri-La Hotel....Fancy!

The convention itself was huge! Over 30,000 Rotarians were registered. The plenary (group) sessions were well done with excellent speakers. Also the house of friendship was very impressive.

The stage was set up as the Presidents 2011-2012 theme logo:
 a stylized Lotus Blossom.

The opening graphic. This screen was probably
30 feet high by 70 feet long!

This is the 2012-2013 (my years) theme logo in several languages

President Kalyan addresses the crowd.

The floral arrangements were amazing, all orchids!

More pretty flowers in the House of Friendship.
Tropical booths in the House of Friendship.

Kim and I dressed Indian style with some of our Rotary friends.

By the end of the convention I was ready to return home. Kim could have stayed indefinitely, as she never tired of walking the streets and shopping. We left our hotel at 5:30 am Bangkok time and arrived home after about 31 hours of travel. We did manage to get a few hours of sleep on the long leg of our flight over the Pacific. It was a wonderful experience, but I was glad to be home!!

Farewell sign at the Bangkok airport.

We approach Hong Kong on the short (3 hour) leg of our flight.
Spring was in full bloom at home the day after our return.

Kim works on her jet lag, as Lumina catches up on her lap time!

So that is an abbreviated pictorial account of the actual convention. It was difficult to continue posting at the time as the pace of our activities really ramped up. Once home we had only 8 days to rest and recuperate before the District Conference. Perhaps I can get that post up tomorrow!

That's All!
